Clockwise from left :
1. ham sui kok (pork meat in a chewy crispy glutinous covering i think :P)
2. CHAR SIEW PAU my absolute favorite, i cant leave a dimsum place without ordering it or id feel super sad haha
3. some vegie thingy wrapped in rice wrapper..super nice too
4. har gao (prawn wrapped in rice paper)
5. chee cheong fun with prawns inside (basically rice paper rolls with prawns, they also have it with char siew)
6. stewed pork in black bean sauce
7. some turnip thingy with bits of pork in it..i love the pastry lots tho.
8. EGG TART!!! my other must have in a dimsum place.. to me the most important mark of a dimsum chef if there is such a thing is whether the charsiew pau is soft and moist enough with the right amount of pull and the char siew inside is lean and fragrant and of course tastes good ; and the egg tart must not be too crumbly, the crust cant be too thick and the custard not too sweet and cant have those bubbles of air on it :P and im super glad to say that ocean king fulfilled them both!! yay! :P

homemade chicken ravioli with tomato sauce

its after exams now..so decided to do something really different..make my own pasta!!! it was really easy and im super happy at the way the whole thing worked out :p

ok heres the recipe

For pasta dough:
2 eggs
1 cup plain flour

Steps:
1. Sift the flour onto a clean surface.
2. Make a well in the center and crack the eggs into the well.
3. Knead for about 10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic
4. Cover the dough for about 20 minutes, and work on the filling in the meanwhile.

Filling:
Minced chicken ( i dont even know how much i used just agar-agar :p)
A sprinkle of pepper
A sprinkle of rosemary
Small cubes of mozzarella cheese

Steps: Just mix it all together

Tomato sauce:
2 medium sized tomatoes, peeled and chopped
1/2 carrot
chicken stock
thyme
1/2 lemon

Steps:
1. To peel the tomato easily, slit a cross on the underside of the tomato and let it boil for abt 5 minutes. Remove from the water and the skin should come off easily.
2. Chop the carrots and the tomatoes finely
3. Heat abit of olive oil in a pot, add in the carrots and tomates. Fry for a while.
4. Add in the chicken stock and boil. Add in thyme and lemon juice. Cover the pot and let the sauce simmer for about half and hour.

To make the ravioli,
1. Roll out the dough to desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.
2. Cut out squares and place filling in the middle of the square. Top with another square and mush the 2 pasta pieces together.
3. Either boil the raviolis in water, or can bake it in the sauce

Finally, serve it with some broccoli. voila and bon appetite!

roast duck in clayton

finally we decided to walk on from our usual bus stop and see what else does clayton have to offer and...theres this really fantastic hongkong roast shop!!! (or it could be because im so deprived that it is that fantastic) haha but anyway, i did enjoy it lots..i had the roast duck with egg noodle and kj had roast pork with rice..the only gripe was that it was a little fatty, but the smell and all was marvellous. oh and they had free piping hot soup, which was fantastic as it was a really cold and rainy night and it was perfect to start and warm us up. :p would definitely be going back there..just realised that there IS lots of stuff to eat in clayton besides la porchetta haha.

comfort food

coz my silly comp messed up big time..apparently my network card is spoilt so i cant even go online. hai normally, internet is not that big a deal..it wasnt even a factor when im in singapore..but here in this really isolated continent, its my EVERYTHING..like my connection to the outer world and stuff.. ohwells. anyway decided to make some comfort food to make myself feel better...

1. Pork Stew

Ingredients:
1. Pork slices
2. Bacon bits
3. 1 whole onion, peeled
4. 2 cloves of garlic, crushed and peeled
5. Olive oil
6. Chicken stock or any other meat stock
7. 1 tablespoon of flour
8. Oregano or thyme
9. Mushrooms, with stalks removed.

Steps:
1. Add some oil to the pot. Fry and brown the pork. Remove the pork.
2. Fry the bacon and mushrooms with the onion and garlic until browned.
3. Add the flour. Remove from heat and add the chicken stock. Stir to ensure the flour dissolves.
4. Return back to heat and boil. Simmer covered for about 2 hours- ish, stirring every 30 minutes.
5. Serve with bun and some boiled brussel sprouts.

2. Warm self saucing chocolate pudding
mm..i stuffed this up a bit..haha my agaration was a bit skewered so shall not post the recipe..but the endorphin rush was just soothing.. and somehow seeing the chocolate lava ooze out does some happy things to my brain haha....perfect ending to a meal :p
